The consortium

The Department of Work, Inclusion and Technology is located at the interface between perspectives from labor, rehabilitation and technology science. With a deliberate focus on inclusive socio-technical work systems, we want to contribute to the human-centred technology design approach by actually taking all stakeholders into account - in the context of hybrid work, this includes not only employees, but also managers and organizations. We work in an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary manner at the meeting point of social science and technology development with the vision that all stakeholders in our society can benefit from the transition to a digitalized world of work 4.0.

Colenet advises and supports organizations operationally with a view to measurably improving value creation in software product development. The topic of hybrid collaboration is relevant both in our work with corporate clients and as part of our training program. In addition to training courses, this also includes numerous well-known certification training courses for agile coaches and software developers. As a practice partner at PRAESCO, we contribute our experience from working with our customers to the design of new tools and concepts.

The Experience and Interaction Design working group at the Chair of Ubiquitous Design conducts research in the field of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) with a focus on the design of interactive systems for meaningful and positive user experiences. The focus is on interdisciplinary approaches that combine technology, design and social innovation. In the PRAESCO project, we are developing new design solutions for hybrid work scenarios that specifically address psychological needs such as connectedness, autonomy and competence. The aim is not only to provide functional support for hybrid collaboration, but also to create a qualitatively new space for experience.

Our research activities are motivated by a significant change that we recognize in the future interaction between humans and technology. Recent developments in the fields of artificial intelligence, computer science and mechanics, among others, offer a path to technology as an everyday partner. Our aim is to use them to contribute to a more inclusive society and to enable people from different backgrounds to lead a more self-determined life. For PRAESCO, we are therefore addressing the question of how we can develop new, interactive technologies that support hybrid collaboration and offer a gain for inclusion in the world of work. These technologies can take a variety of forms, from smart devices with natural language interfaces to collaborative robotic arms that can physically manipulate their environment.

The scientific and practical interest of the Institute of Work and Technology (IAT) lies in the organization of knowledge and innovation for sustainable prosperity and quality of life. We are a central institution of the Westphalian University of Applied Sciences Gelsenkirchen, Bocholt, Recklinghausen and cooperate with the Ruhr University Bochum, among others, as a joint competence center for innovation. At the research focus Health Economy and Quality of Life, we are primarily interested in the health perspective of employees and how this manifests itself in hybrid work contexts. In addition, we support the project with regard to ethical, legal and social aspects (ELSI) in order to actively support the development of socially acceptable innovation.
